DHA is one of the nutrients found naturally in breast milk and is recognized by pediatric and nutrition experts worldwide as an important building block of the central nervous system. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the World Health Organization note the value of breast milk as baby’s first food because of the nutrients, proteins and antibodies breast milk provides.
In the first year, your baby’s main nutritional needs are met by either breast milk or formula. This is also their main source of DHA during this time. However, new studies show that as your baby receives additional DHA in solid baby food, there is additional benefit of enhanced eyesight.
