infant cereals

Our cereals are fortified to provide essential nutrients for your infant and are Non-GMO.

Cereal is a fantastic and trusted first food for your infant starting solids. Our oatmeal & corn infant cereals are processed in our headquarters in upstate, NY and make great additions to breastmilk, formula, or water. Our cereals are iron-fortified to help ensure your baby is receiving nutrients that start to naturally decline in their bodies around 6 months. Beech-Nut stopped making rice infant cereals in 2021.

How do I prepare and serve Beech-Nut® infant cereals?

Our infant cereals should be prepared by mixing the dry cereal with water, breastmilk, formula, purees, or any other age-appropriate and safe liquid. Once prepared, feed the cereal in small spoonfuls to baby when they are seated and upright.

Do not serve mixtures from a baby bottle as that might increase choking hazards.
Do not mix with cow’s milk, as babies stomachs are not yet ready for this liquid.

Where should I store Beech-Nut® baby food?

All products are designed to be stored at room temperature before opening. Freezing before use is not recommended. After opening, please refer to the label on each individual product for proper handling and storage information.
Our jars can be stored in your pantry or cupboard. Once opened, however, our jars should be stored in the refrigerator with the cap on and kept only for either 2-3 days (each jar has specific instructions for either 2 or 3 days).
• Pouches should be resealed and refrigerated after opening.
• Prepared cereal should be covered and stored in the pantry for up to 30 days.
• Most of our snacks come in bags with a resealable enclosure method!
If you are serving only a portion of the jar, avoid spoon-feeding baby directly from the jar. Instead, pour the puree portion into a bowl, seal and refrigerate the remaining portion. (Baby’s saliva has the potential to cause bacteria growth, if re-serving directly from the jar)

Where can I find the best-by date on your cereal canisters?

The best by date can be found on the bottom of the canister. Our Cereal is safe to eat for 30 days after opening.

What does "iron fortified" mean?

When babies are born, their bodies contain iron stores that they develop while in the womb. Stored iron lasts about six months, after which babies need to receive iron from other sources. While breastmilk does contain some iron, it is not enough to bring baby’s iron to a sufficient level. Our infant cereals are thus fortified with nutritional iron to help babies maintain their levels of iron, around 6 months.

Beech-Nut® cereal should be consumed within one sitting in order to prevent bacteria growth.
