Does that picture above give you heart palpitations? Then you are not alone.

Even for the most trained shopper, walking into the ever expanding and messy baby food section at your local grocery store can be overwhelming.

Then the questions start rapidly firing in your head –

What is the best brand of baby food?
What brand is the healthiest?
How do I even tell which is the best food for my baby?

Then baby starts to fuss and you have to make a mad dash to grab a variety of whatever baby food you can reach as you head out of the store before your baby (and you) are in full on meltdown mode.

Don’t worry, it has happened to all of us.

So next time you go to the store, remember these 3 easy tips on how to find the healthiest baby food for your little one.

Tip #1 – Look for Organic Label
First thing is to look for is a big ORGANIC label on your baby food. It should be right there, all loud and proud, on the front of the package.

For me, buying strictly organic baby food (or making my own baby food using organic produce) was the only option for my family during my littles one’s first year. The main reason is that pound per pound, babies eat more food than adults- thus exposing them to a way higher level of harmful chemicals, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, fertilizer not to mention harmful growth hormones and antibiotics. Plus, I found that you can buy organic baby food for mere pennies more than conventional baby food. I did the math once and realized that it would cost me one fancy coffee drink more a month to feed my baby organic food rather than conventional. Skipping that one coffee was worth for me to provide healthier food for my baby.

Tip #2 – Look for Non-GMO Project Verified Label
Secondly, look for the blue Non-GMO Project Label. It should also be right there on the front of the package. This little label has a big mission, to let the consumer know that nothing in that package has genetically modified organisms (GMOs). There is a huge growing body of evidence that connects GMOs to not only major health problems but also environmental damages. So, the easiest way to avoid them is to not eat them.

Tip #3 – Look for No Added Ingredients
This one is easy. You just turn around the jar or package of baby food and check to see that there are no added ingredients, preservatives or water. You want your baby eating real food, all the time. My only exception on this tip is lemon juice since it’s a natural preservative that helps keep the color of some foods looking fresh.

More Reasons to Love Beech-Nut

  • Beech-Nut uses a process called cold purée. This is a simple process where they take fresh & frozen fruits and vegetables and first purée them cold before they gently cook them (most baby food companies do it the other way around). This process leads to the freshest color, taste and a higher nutrient content in each jar.
  • Beech-Nut’s pesticide standards are 10x stricter than the government’s requirements and they test each lot for over 235 pesticides, heavy metals and toxins.
  • Beech-Nut has the only LEED-certified baby food production facility in the world, and it happens to be right here in the US.
