As we move forward in Scarlett’s feeding journey, we’re completing Stage 2, with chunkier textures and a wider variety of flavors. Scarlett’s palate has been pretty much all-accepting, with only a few flavors or textures that she hasn’t enjoyed at first. She’s constantly shrieking excitedly to try whatever I’m eating, and that’s something I never experienced with Red, my son. In the mornings, Scarlett eats everything. She’ll eat Beech-Nut purée with oatmeal, as well as scrambled eggs and toast with an apple, strawberry & beet purée (sometimes homemade, like this recipe).
Lunches and dinners usually consist of a chunkier Stage 2 purée (either homemade or Beech-Nut® Organics™) and some small pieces of table food. Scarlett has shown me over the past month or two that she’s an absolute carnivore. She loves her proteins and prefers to eat them first before other meal items. But if I make myself some tomatoes and avocado slices for a snack, she’s right there beside me, picking up bites of that, too. We even started the transition to a sippy cup this month, and she’s been on the go with her purple cup ever since. Scarlett especially enjoys testing the valve and shaking it up and down during stroller walks.
As we’re firmly in Stage 2 territory, I’ve been thinking about what’s been the most gratifying – and I think that it’s sticking to my commitment to keep real foods like veggies, fruits and healthy proteins as a primary source of nutrients in Scarlett’s diet. I definitely learned from the pitfalls I experienced with Red, my son. When I read Beech-Nut’s research on what kids are eating, it definitely hit close to home. I became even more determined to make wiser choices with Scarlett’s diet – and I’ve done just that!
I love preparing homemade lean proteins, roasted veggies and fresh fruits for her, but if I’m short on time, I grab some of Beech-Nut’s organic purees that I always have on hand. It’s peace of mind for me that Beech-Nut helps me simply and easily include those items in her diet each day. If I can keep up her nutrient-dense diet, I know I’m setting her up for success to make those choices herself one day, building on a wonderful nutritional platform!
Now what will the coming weeks and Stage 3 bring? I’m not sure, but I think we’re ready for the challenge!
