Sweet pear & apricot purée is the pear-fect (sorry just had to) accompaniment to freshly mashed avocado. Did you know that avocados are usually referred to as one of nature’s perfect foods because they are loaded with healthy fats, potassium and fiber that help with baby’s brain and bone development? And when mixed with fiber-rich pears and vitamin A-filled apricots, they make for a well-rounded, nutrient-dense and tasty meal for baby.
To Make On-The-Go:
Cut a ripe avocado in half, leaving the peel and seed on the avocado until ready to smash. Place avocado inside a container with a lid. If you are going to be serving in more than 3 hours, it helps to squeeze a little lemon juice on the avocado to prevent any discoloring. When you are ready to serve, peel and deseed the avocado, place back inside the container and then smash the avocado with the back of a fork until smooth. Add in the desired amount of pear & apricot purée and mix until incorporated. Serve to baby.
Avocado and Lemon Tip:
To keep mashed, cut or chopped avocados from discoloring, I find a little squeeze of fresh lemon, lime or even an orange juice on the avocado helps keep it from turning brown.
This purée is perfect for Stage 2, or about 6 months of age.
