How should I serve Beech-Nut® purees?

Our purees should be spoon fed to a baby who is seated, upright, and is either showing signs of readiness for solid foods or is already eating solid foods. Our purees can be served at room temperature, but they may also be served slightly chilled or warmed depending on preferences. We do not recommend freezing our purees, as this impacts the texture and quality of the product.
If you are serving only a portion of the jar, avoid spoon-feeding baby directly from the jar. Instead, pour the puree portion into a bowl, seal and refrigerate the remaining portion. (Baby’s saliva has the potential to cause bacteria growth, if re-serving directly from the jar)

Why does the color of baby food vary from jar to jar?

You may notice slight color differences between some of our purees, even though they are the same flavor. This is due to variations in the ingredient crops. Crops can be slightly different, as you’d expect, from season to season or farm to farm. This variation can result in a product that is slightly thicker or thinner, or a product that may also taste slightly different, due to naturally-occurring crop variety. This is the beauty of real food for babies™. We work with Mother Nature, at her finest.

Where should I store Beech-Nut® baby food?

All products are designed to be stored at room temperature before opening. Freezing before use is not recommended. After opening, please refer to the label on each individual product for proper handling and storage information.
Our jars can be stored in your pantry or cupboard. Once opened, however, our jars should be stored in the refrigerator with the cap on and kept only for either 2-3 days (each jar has specific instructions for either 2 or 3 days).
• Pouches should be resealed and refrigerated after opening.
• Prepared cereal should be covered and stored in the pantry for up to 30 days.
• Most of our snacks come in bags with a resealable enclosure method!

What is the difference between your Beech-Nut® jars, Beech-Nut Naturals® jars, and Beech-Nut® Organics jars?

Our Beech-Nut® baby food jars (also known as “Classics”) are made with fruits or vegetables pureed until they have a very smooth and thin consistency. With this line, we use a conventional cooking method and add water to some of our flavors to give the purees a smoother, thinner consistency.
Our Beech-Nut Naturals® jars contain one to three ingredients (some even include oats or granola!) and are made directly from frozen ingredients processed using our Gentle Cooking method, which helps preserve nutrients, flavors, colors, and textures.
Our Beech-Nut® Organics jars also use Gentle Cooking method with USDA Certified Organic fruits, vegetables, and gains.
All Beech-Nut® jar purees are made and jarred in our upstate, New York plant in Amsterdam, New York.

Is the date on my product a best-by date or an expiration date? What is the difference?

The dates on all of our products are “best-by” dates, meaning the product is best when consumed by this date, but is still safe to eat for a certain amount of time after this date passes.
•For cereals—the best by date can be found on the bottom of the canister. Cereal is still safe to eat for 30 days after opening.
• For jars—the best by date can be found on the top or side of the lid. Our jar purees are still safe to eat for 1 year after the best-by date.
• For pouches—the best by date can be found on the bottom of the pouch near the barcode. Pouch purees are still safe to eat 3 months after the best-by date.
• For Snacks —the best by date can be found on the bottom of the bag near the barcode.

Where are Beech-Nut® jars produced?

All Beech-Nut® jars are produced at our headquarters in Amsterdam, New York. We’ve been a proud resident of upstate New York since 1891.

How should I serve Beech-Nut® jar purees?

All of our products are completely safe to eat at room temperature! If you would like to serve the product warm, we recommend taking the product out of the jar or pouch and placing in a microwave safe container. Always test the temperature before serving it to your baby, as uneven heating may occur (note: Our jars are NOT microwave safe). A safe alternative to microwaving is placing your jar in a bowl of warm water, then stirring and testing the temperature.
If you are serving only a portion of the jar, avoid spoon-feeding baby directly from the jar to prevent bacteria growth. Instead, pour the puree portion into a bowl, seal and refrigerate the remaining portion.
