Bob Harvey

A career perspective from one of our leaders, who has been with Beech-Nut Nutrition for 32 superb years.

  1. What do you love most about your career at Beech-Nut Nutrition? I have always had the freedom to do whatever I have wanted to do (within limits).
  2. What gets you out of bed in the morning? My cat gets me up.
  3. What do you do to live a balanced life? Whenever I can I love to play the tuba and vacation at Disney World!
  4. How would you describe Beech-Nut Nutrition in 5 words or less? Never a dull moment.
  5. What is your favorite product that we make at Beech-Nut Nutrition? Naturals Apple Blackberry – I love blackberries!
  6. How would you describe your work style? I am a doer, I get things done regardless of the obstacles. One of my engineering professors showed me a slogan he kept on his desk, “those that can do, those that can’t do teach, those that can’t teach administrate.” I have found this to be true.
  7. If you could have dinner with someone living or dead who would it be? JRR Tolkien.
  8. What is your favorite company or person to follow? I follow no one.
  9. What is your best life hack? Don’t have one.
  10. What have you learned at Beech-Nut Nutrition that you will never forget? Everything is about people, nothing else. Companies, governments are all people.
  11. What is the weirdest job you have ever had? Having to test residue on a nuclear missile.
  12. What has been your biggest career success? The fact that in the 27 years that I have been the company’s process authority we have not had a recall or incident relating to thermal processing.
  13. What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as a leader? I will continue to take courses to keep myself sharp, I will continue hiking and I will try volunteering to use the skills I have to teach other people about food and nutrition.
  14. What is your biggest outside interest? I love the outdoors.
  15. What is a book you have read recently? I am reading a book called “The Silk Road” about a history of mankind’s interactions, very interesting.
  16. How do you incorporate our mission (Delight Consumers by Conserving the Goodness of Nature) into your role every day? Every day I go through the plant to make sure the raw materials are the best quality, as well as to ensure that we process the products properly.
  17. How and where do you find inspiration? Inspiration can be found almost anywhere, the shower, on a walk, in a quiet moment and I have even found it on a crowded airplane. It is more important what you do with it, ideas lost are wasted ideas.
  18. What are you most passionate about in your role? The safety of our products from a microbial and chemical contaminant standpoint. Infants are the most susceptible population to these types of food safety issues.
  19. What’s kept you at Beech-Nut Nutrition for 32 years? My wife! [Also a Beech-Nut employee!]
  20. What are three things still left on your bucket list? Get a PhD, see parts of the country that I have not been to, and to break 80 on the golf course!
